Concept scope at a glance
Seeing every vehicle, even when the network drops
Dispatchers need to see where vehicles are and what needs attention. But vehicles move through patchy coverage, devices send data in bursts and too many alerts get ignored. This concept explores a platform that stays useful in those conditions.
Event-driven, built for unreliable connections
We would treat every position and sensor reading as an event, buffer data on the device when offline, and stream updates to a live map. Alert rules would be designed with dispatchers so that every alert asks for an action.
- 1ModelDefine the events, devices and the decisions dispatchers make.
- 2IngestBuild a queue-based pipeline that handles late and out-of-order data.
- 3VisualiseCreate a fast live map with clustering and useful filters.
- 4OperateAdd alert rules, monitoring and a simple way to tune them.
What we would decide, and why
Design for patchy connectivity
Devices store and forward data, and the interface shows how fresh each reading is.
Alert only on what needs action
Fewer, clearer alerts that dispatchers learn to trust.
Keep the map fast at scale
Cluster vehicles and load detail only when needed.
What success would look like
This is a concept brief, so there are no results to report. These are the measures we would track if it were built, and what we would check first.
- Delay from vehicle event to dispatcher screenMeasured end to end under load
- Share of alerts that lead to an actionReview with dispatchers monthly
- Time to resolve an incidentCompare before and after
What we would check first
- Does it hold up at the real fleet size?
- What are the device battery and data costs?
- How is location data protected and who can see it?
